The Stow Company and Kids’ Food Basket Partner to Raise Awareness and Funds to Combat Childhood Hunger
GRAND RAPIDS, Mich., March 12, 2012 – Childhood hunger is an issue facing communities nation-wide, and in Kent County, Mich. Kids’ Food Basket is making a difference by providing over 4,800 children with a healthy dinner each weekday. The Stow Company is proud to announce that it has joined efforts with Kids’ Food Basket to raise funds and awareness about childhood hunger through its campaign, The Organized Give.
The Organized Give was created by The Stow Company, a home organization manufacturer in Holland, Mich., to help others by providing storage solutions to families, organizations and communities in need. The Stow Company also donates to a selected non-profit organization $1.00 for every new “Like” their Facebook page receives during a designated time period, up to $3,000. The company has chosen to partner with Kids’ Food Basket, a local organization dedicated to attacking childhood hunger, to help them with their storage needs while raising awareness and funds to support the cause.
More than 16 million children in the United States lived in food insecure households in 2010, according to the USDA. In Michigan, one in four kids experiences hunger and, in the greater Grand Rapids area alone, over 36,860 kids are food-insecure. According to the Food Research and Action Center, the Grand Rapids metropolitan area ranks 58th among the 100 largest U.S. metropolitan areas dealing with food hardship. Kids’ Food Basket is on a mission to change that. Through its Sack Supper program, evening dinners are distributed within the classroom and at local parks, providing kids with essential nutrition and ensuring lunch is not the last meal of the day.
The Stow Company is providing organizational solutions for Kids’ Food Basket facility which will help keep items organized and easily accessible, making the Sack Supper production process more efficient for the staff and 170 or more volunteers that donate their time each day. Their facility is located at 2055 Oak Industrial Drive in Grand Rapids. The installation will be completed by The Stow Company employees and the local ORG dealer, ORG West Michigan, on the afternoon of Friday, March 16.
Kids’ Food Basket will also receive one-hundred percent of the funds raised by The Stow Company’s Facebook “Like” campaign. The campaign begins on Monday, March 12 and will end on Monday, April 9, 2012.
Kids’ Food Basket is the second recipient of The Organized Give. Launched in January 2012, The Organized Give has already made a difference in the life of Anissa Mayhew and her family in Atlanta, Georgia, the first recipients of the program. Mayhew has suffered from multiple strokes leaving her wheelchair-bound and facing challenges that make every day a struggle. The Stow Company provided an ORG custom closet system and storage shelving unit for her bedroom, and an organizing solution for her kitchen pantry. Mayhew chose to have the funds raised from the The Stow Company's Facebook “Like” campaign donated to Violence UnSilenced, a non-profit organization that offers resources and a voice to domestic and sexual violence survivors. Mayhew serves on the board of Violence UnSilenced.
The Organized Give Campaign is being documented through video blog segments by Molly Gold, home organization expert and blogger. Social aspects of the campaign also include a Twitter party scheduled for Friday, March 16 at 1 PM (EST), mediated by Amy Lupold Bair, blogger and founder of the “Twitter Party.” The Twitter party will be using the hashtag #OrganizedGive, and will discuss the topic of childhood hunger in an attempt to spread awareness of the cause nationwide among “mom bloggers” and social media advocates.
